Funny Old Game
A week in football can be a very long time...just ask Nicholas Anelka!

The disappointment of England's awful shift on Friday night was brightened today by a much improved Australian performance who were a different animal tonight and could easily have taken all three points were it not for poor finishing against Ghana.

David Carney was recalled to the side and I thought he did well considering it was his first competitive ninety minutes since December. He's playing with a heavily strapped shoulder as a precaution but he pulled up well.

All attention turns to Wednesday night when I hope Mark Milligan will return to the team following Craig Moore's suspension. I believe Mark should be playing in this tournament regardless but I know it will be between him and the taller Michael Beauchamp as to who gets the nod.

In the meantime, Osman Chavez faces the biggest test of his career when Honduras come up against a wounded Spain side on Monday. My outside bet Chile made Honduras look very ordinary last week and Spain must win so Osman is certainly going to have a busy day at the office.

I was sorry to see Cameroon depart tonight. They were outstanding against Denmark and I'm still scratching my head as to how they lost that game this evening.

The tournament should really start to hot up this week starting with Sven's Ivory Coast playing Brazil on Sunday night which promises to be a cracker. For me, Argentina are looking most ominous at this stage. What's more, Chubby has them in the office sweepstake!
