Fernando Sinks Argentina

It was a great night for Athletic Bilbao's Fernando Amorebieta and Venezuela as they beat a strong Argentina side in their World Cup Qualification match in Puerto La Cruz last night.

Venezuela lost to Ecuador last week and replied with a dominent display in which Fernando put in a Man of the Match performance as well as scoring a rare goal.

Argentina had the likes of Messi, Di Maria, Mascharano, Higuain, Demichelis in their ranks put they were beaten by the better side on the night.

Fernando has deliberated over playing for Venezuela for years after being selected for Spain but never making it beyond the bench for the World Champions.

He saw his decision to play for the country of his birth as his best chance to play in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They've certainly made a statement of intent in the early qualification stages.

Elsewhere, Nicklas Bendtner's goal helped Denmark secure their place in next years Euro Championships with a stunning 2-1 win over group favourites Portugal.
