A product of the Everton youth system, Australian International, David is a versatile midfielder/wing back who currently plays for FC Twente in Holland.
David made his first real impression at professional level whilst playing for his hometown club, Sydney FC. During his two-year tenure at the club he became a firm fan favourite after being part of the A-League Championship winning side that were also the first Australian team to qualify for the Asian Champions League.
In his first season at Sydney he scored 6 goals and made 6 assists from midfield in 24 appearances. Continuing in the same fashion in his second season, he capped several top performances in the AFC Champions League, by gaining his first call up to the Australian national team where he has remained a regular member of the squad scoring a couple of memorable long range goals in the process.
Bryan Robson signed him at Sheffield United FC in August 2007 and he continued to chip in with a few goals including the only goal in the Blades 1-0 FA Cup win against Premier League Bolton Wanderers.
When Robson left United, David became frustrated with a lack of opportunities under Kevin Blackwell and as his time at Sheffield United drew to an end, David moved to Norwich City on loan before former England manager, Steve McClaren snapped him up and took him to Holland in order to help the club achieve the Eredivise title for the first time in over 70 years.
David began the 2009/10 season well for Twente and Australia during which he scored a terrific goal in their 3-0 win over the Rebublic of Ireland in Dublin. However, a shoulder injury and subsiquent surgery in December 2009 meant David was out for four months and only returned to the side in April 2010.
Now fully fit, David will be an integral part of Australia's World Cup Squad in South Africa.
