- Biography
Hamza played for French side, EA Guingamp at youth level before being spotted by Nottingham Forest who moved to capture his signature in 2006. Despite a period at Forest with little game time, Hamza’s move to the midlands proved good for his development but he has since opted to drop down a level in order to get regular game time and ISM are certain that a step back will ensure he moves two steps forward in the near future.
Such had been his form, former Algerian U20 International, Hamza Bencherif was on the verge of a call-up to the Algerian national squad prior to sustaining an ankle injury in December 2009.
Known for his imposing and combative playing style, Hamza has relied upon his strength of character to overcome the injury and is on track to make a full recovery in time for the 2010/2011 pre-season.
Despite the injury occuring in December, Hamza is still Macclesfield Town’s second highest goalscorer this season.
Hamza’s versatile performances either as a commanding box-to-box midfielder or at central defence has certainly been missed and with a contract offer on the table, Hamza will be looking to make a decision on his future in the coming months.
